Sheffield Neuro Physio Take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

In September this year, we will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity FSHD Appeal.

About the FSHD Appeal

Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) is a devastating condition which causes skeletal muscles to irreparably deteriorate.

One of the initial signs of FSHD is an inability to smile. As the condition progresses, patients struggle with activities like running and playing sports. Eventually FSHD impacts simple tasks like going upstairs and getting out of a chair. Around 25% of patients eventually require the use of a wheelchair, with those who display symptoms in childhood being more severely affected.

There is currently no cure or treatment for FSHD.

However, in the last decade, huge progress has been made and treatments are finally approaching clinical trials.

Funding from this appeal will support research studies taking place in Sheffield!

Data collected from these studies will help pave the way towards clinical trials for treatment for FSHD.

Why are Sheffield Neuro Physio getting involved?

One of our wonderful and inspirational clients has FSHD and she has been pivotal in pushing for FSHD research to take place in Sheffield.

When we heard that the next step to get this research underway is to raise enough funds for it, we knew we had to get involved and play our part in raising those funds.

This research will positively impact the lives of everyone with FSHD by improving our understanding of the condition and hopefully, one day, developing a treatment.

How can you help?

We will shortly be adding a JustGiving link to this page.

Please do check back soon and, if you are able to and would like to support this local cause, you can sponsor us via the link. All contributions, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated! Especially when we're slogging our way up that last hill!
